LAI Voon Wai has over 23 years of experience in the securities industry and was involved in different aspects of securities business, including initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, financial advisory and equity and debt capital markets transactions in Hong Kong and China. Mr. Lai was previously the Head of Investment Banking at BOCOM International Capital Limited from June 2014 to March 2017, managing their Corporate Finance, Equity Capital Markets, Debt Capital Markets and Mergers & Acquisition Department in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Beijing. He was also at CCB International Capital Limited from early 2006 to June 2014 and was the Deputy Head of Investment Banking prior to joining BOCOM.
Mr. Lai graduated from Queen Mary & Westfield College (now known as Queen Mary University of London) with a Bachelor’s degree in Electronic Engineering in 1992 and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Law from University of Buckingham, United Kingdom in 1994.
Melvin has more than 18 years of extensive experience in corporate finance and investment banking, originating and implementing both equity and debt fund-raising exercises – IPOs and private debt securities issues, mergers and acquisitions, and also valuation exercises. Melvin has advised in and structured various corporate finance and banking transactions as well as conducted feasibility evaluations for a diverse group of large corporations across various industries including property development and investment, real estate investment trust, construction, oil palm and forest plantations, industrial and consumer products, automotive and related products, telecommunications, aviation and oil & gas, and also implemented cross-border corporate exercises.
Melvin graduated cum laude with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Northeast Missouri State University (USA). Initially trained with Price Waterhouse as a American Expatriate Taxation Specialist, Melvin has since built his investment banking career with two leading Malaysian investment banks during which he held the Capital Markets Services Representative’s License. Prior to Resolute, Melvin was Director, Group Client Coverage (Private Sector) at RHB Investment Bank where he led the relationship management of a portfolio of key large corporate clients of the RHB Banking Group.
Val Cheong came from a boutique corporate advisory firm where she advised clients on initial public offerings and reverse take-over transactions in the Australian Stock Exchange and Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad. Val has experience in advising small- to mid-size corporate clients and offshore investment funds with a wide variety of portfolios.
Val started her career in 2012 as an Investment Analyst with HEB Manitoba, a Canadian Provincial Pension Plan with Asset Under Management of $6 billion. Upon returning to Kuala Lumpur in year 2015, Val joined Inter-Pacific Securities Sdn Bhd for a short stint as a Proprietary Trader.
Val graduated from the Asper School of Business, University of Manitoba, Canada in year 2012 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree double majoring in Accounting and Finance. In year 2016, Val successfully completed the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) Program and officially becomes a CFA charterholder.
LEE Ying Yen
Ying Yen began her career with a boutique corporate finance advisory firm at which she was involved in initial public offerings in Bursa Malaysia Securities Berhad, private placement exercises and financial evaluation of asset acquisitions.
Ying Yen graduated from Renmin University of China, Beijing with a Bachelor’s degree in Law in 2013. She also holds a second bachelor’s degree – a B.Sc. in Business, Economics and Finance (Hons) – from The University of Nottingham (Malaysia Campus) in 2018.
